URGENT: Adult Ed Needs Your Help

This urgent message is being sent to you from KAACE.

 

 

As you know, last week the House of Representatives issued its proposed state budget which restored $1.5 million for adult education in each year of the next biennium.  Yesterday, the Senate announced its version of a state budget, and it does NOT include these funds.  It puts adult education back at the 9% cut proposed in the Executive Budget which was in addition to a 3% cut made this year, totaling a 12% reduction.

 

The next step in the budget process is for the Senate and House Conference Committee to negotiate a compromise state budget.

 

 IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU CALL MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE LEADERSHIP TO EXPRESS YOUR SUPPORT FOR ADULT EDUCATION FUNDING.  PLEASE CALL AS MANY LEGISLATORS AS YOU CAN.

 

 

These calls must be made on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

 

The telephone number to call for all legislative offices is (502) 564-8100.  Ask for the office of the legislator you are calling.  You will be connected to his/her office and will speak to a staff person.

 

It is important to succinctly say:

• You support restoration of adult education funding.
• This reduction will result in teacher layoffs and fewer students served.
• The number of GEDs will go down.
• Fewer people will be prepared for Kentucky’s workforce.
• PLEASE support adult education and the 786,000 in Kentuckians without a high school diploma or a GED.
• THANK YOU for your past support.
