KYAE Common Core Standards professional development is based on the Standards-in-Action Innovations (www.adultedcontentstandards.ed.gov) developed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Vocational and Adult Education.  Part 1, Understanding the Standards We Teach, will provide educators with an introduction to standards-based education.  Standards offer measurable objectives on which instructors can base their curricula.  By “unpacking,” or looking at the components of each standard, instructors will consider the knowledge and skills to be taught.  Then, as a result of that “unpacking,” instructors will develop sample instructional activities.  The second part of the professional development will address the level to which program instructional resources align with the standards. Throughout the professional development, instructors will engage in interactive learning with their peers.  Face-to-face sessions and participation in program-based group work will be approximately 45 hours.
