This online course introduces new adult education practitioners to information specific to adult education in Kentucky. The course is a self-paced tutorial with activities to build knowledge and a course quiz to test understanding of adult education concepts.
This requirement includes all KYAE-funded part-time corrections, ESL instructors/instructor’s aides and Department of Corrections instructors.

This six-hour, six-week, online facilitated course provides instructors with an understanding of how to develop effective lesson plans. Pre-teaching, teaching, and reflection will be a focus of the lesson planning process. Instructors will learn to write objectives using Bloom’s taxonomy, how to insure that the objectives are measureable and how to decide to measure performance in relation to objectives. Guided practice and independent practice will be addressed as well as differentiation of instruction. Using the approved template, instructors will develop two lesson plans for use in their classes.

This six-hour, six-week, online facilitated course provides part-time instructors and instructor's aides with additional strategies for improvement of instruction in their classrooms. The work of Dr. Robert Marzano will be incorporated. Participants will gain an understanding of how to integrate research and best practices into effective classroom instruction. Participants will engage in interactive learning with their peers through the use of a discussion board. The online course will consist of a syllabus, interactive learning activities, assigned reading and a course project. All participants will complete a pre- and post-assessment and a course project that will be due 30 days after the online course has closed. The project will consist of a lesson plan and self-evaluation of the plan after its implementation.

This six-hour, six-week, online facilitated course examines and analyzes curriculum and materials for the adult ESL classroom, as well as plan for instruction on the unit level. Issues related to general classroom assessment and Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) and the Basic English Skills Test (BEST) will also be covered.
Foundations of Teaching Adult Numeracy (ProLiteracy) (select one)
In this foundational course, participants will learn how to keep students at the center of numeracy instruction. They will explore the components of numeracy, how to address the needs of students with learning gaps, how students' styles of learning math and levels of math knowledge affect their math skills, and ways to build student's success in learning math. Participants will plan classroom activities, test them with your students, and share your experiences with fellow teachers.
