Use the following guidelines to complete the Budget Worksheet.
- Core Services and Family Literacy budgets shall not exceed the county’s projected allocations.
- Applicants shall submit a budget for the program year (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007).
- A maximum of 15 percent of the Core Services and the Family Literacy grant funding may be used for administrative purposes.
- Professional development funds will be allocated by formula and should not be included in this budget.
- Round all totals to the nearest dollar.
- Core Services and Family Literacy funds awarded may not be used for GED or other testing fees, food, entertainment or graduation or award ceremonies.
Use the following cost category descriptions to complete the budget worksheets.
I.A. Administrative Personnel Costs are those expenses necessary to effectively manage the program. They include the cost of personnel engaged in program administration, including fiscal, clerical or data management.
I.B. Other Administrative Costs may include the cost of office supplies, office furniture, printing and administrative travel. Travel funds may be used for travel to required meetings, but may not be used for travel to employee’s assigned worksite or between an employee’s home and work site.
II.A. Operational Costs are necessary expenses incurred in the delivery of services that are neither directly administrative nor instructional. These costs may include rent, utilities, telephone, computer maintenance and installation and Internet services.
III.A. Instructional Personnel Costs are costs that directly benefit the student. They include the cost of personnel engaged in direct instruction, instructional support assessment, recording and maintaining assessment and/or other student data, operation and counseling, case management, academic advising, transitioning students to postsecondary institutions, job coaching and mentoring activities.
III.B. Other Instructional Costs are those costs incurred for instructional activities, which may include supplies, materials, classroom furniture and travel other than travel for professional development purposes (professional development funds are allocated separately). Instructional materials and supplies are needed by instructors or by the student to perform their duties. Examples include assessment materials, instructional software, workbooks, textbooks, tests, reading materials, paper, pencils, pens and file folders. Budgets may not include instructional software currently available through KYVAE. Travel funds may be used for travel to a student’s home, other work sites, and meetings, but may not be used for travel between an employee’s home and work site.
IV.A. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, computers, printers, fax machines, answering machines, copiers, VCRs and televisions.
